About Dr. Zaki
Timothy Zaki, MD, is a gastroenterologist at Digestive Disease Consultants of Orange County. An Orange County native, Dr. Zaki is grateful for the opportunity to care for patients in the community where he grew up.
Dr. Zaki attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in psychobiology. He earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine, completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and returned to UCLA for his fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology.
After a family member was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, Dr. Zaki saw firsthand the impact that a compassionate and skilled gastroenterologist can have on both a patient and their family. That experience helped inspire his decision to pursue gastroenterology and continues to shape his commitment to colorectal cancer prevention and early detection.
In his practice, Dr. Zaki provides comprehensive care for conditions involving the digestive tract, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. His clinical interests include colorectal cancer screening and prevention, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Barrett’s esophagus, swallowing disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, and liver disease. He performs upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, esophageal balloon dilation, endoscopic treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding, and variceal banding. He also offers specialized evaluation of reflux and esophageal disorders, including wireless pH monitoring (e.g., Bravo), EndoFLIP, and advanced risk stratification for Barrett’s esophagus using tissue-based biomarker testing such as TissueCypher.
Dr. Zaki believes that excellent medical care begins with listening. He strives to understand each patient’s concerns, explain their condition and treatment options clearly, and develop an individualized plan grounded in the best available medical evidence and aligned with each patient’s goals. His commitment to education and communication was recognized during fellowship, when he was twice named Fellow Teacher of the Year by the UCLA Department of Medicine.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Zaki enjoys spending time with his wife and family, traveling, and cooking.
